Firstly, I am of the belief at this present time that one's soul actually carries the life force within our physical being - that is the human body. When we die we are no longer alive and in some way our soul leaves the body. If that is so then where was the soul residing or what is the soul exactly? This question has plagued me for years! Oh what a topic to choose for my first posting but again there is this burning concern within me at this moment to express this. Maybe I'll find enlightenment on this topic. Who knows?
Recently, I was having a conversation with a close friend of mine about where life comes from; more like where one's soul is within one's body. Tough topic indeed. This has been a question that have been resonating in my mind for some years now.
Interestingly, the conversation came up some what spur of the moment as I had expressed my curiosity some time before about the subject. My friend indicated to me that according to scripture the blood carries the 'life force'. I was intrigued. He presented another way of looking at it but I was not totally convinced.
On careful contemplation, I concluded that one's breath carries one life force. The purpose of the blood is to carry oxygen throughout the body and what facilitates getting the oxygen into the bloodstream is the process where we breathe in and take in oxygen and breathe out and dispose of the waste product, carbon dioxide. There has to be some reason why it is called 'the breath of life'. We often check to see if someone is breathing to gauge if they are alive. Why do we do that?
But in all fairness to my friend, his point does have some merit cause why do we check for a pulse too to see if someone is alive. So i guess in some way the lungs and the heart are vital in maintaining life. But can it be said too that these organs and by and large the processes that they facilitate contribute to sustaining the soul within one's body???
As I write I realize that this topic is both sacred and complex. However, what I can say that I have personally discerned is that the breathe of life and the beating of the heart is important to sustaining life at least in the physical sense of things. It is said that the body, mind and spirit is all interconnected and I definitely see that somewhat!
I may never entirely know the answer but I'll continue to ponder on it! Where is my soul? What is it exactly?
